What to wear to the Melbourne Cup Carnival 2014

Spring Racing

Spring Racing Carnival is well and truly upon us, with the Cox Plate being run last weekend we are on the home straight at Flemington with the Melbourne Cup Carnival kicking off this weekend with Derby Day.

I have put together my picks for the following race days starting with Derby Day, Melbourne Cup, Oaks Day and last of all Stakes Day.

Derby Day is traditionally black and white so easy to mix and match some monochrome, I am in love with the black and white stripe clutch from Mimco.  For Cup Day I have kept things simple and added subtle colour with accessories.  Oaks Day is Ladies Day so lady like it is by tying your whole outfit together with the same colour and Stakes Day is family day and have opted for a comfortable floral dress like this one from City Chic with cute Kate Spade wedges.

As always opt for a wedge or chunky heel or end up with no heels stuck in the grass! Choose a facinator or hat that is comfortable and stays on your head properly, the last thing you want is to be fiddling with it all day.

Here are some of my other race day essentials, an epilady works so much better than shaving and one less thing to worry about the morning of race day. I used Le Tan Wash Off last year for Derby Day and it was fabulous and stood the test of time. I have also become accustomed to using volumising powder in my hair on big days, it keeps the oil at bay and gives amazing texture to your hair. Party Feet, sunscreen and 3B chaffing cream go without saying!
